An estimated 4,000 pebble like forms which lay on the floor. They are marked by their shape with the action to press a button. Made from clay, indented with the finger tip, smoke fired with sawdust and finally gilded with silver or gold leaf. They could be seen like spores of fungi, pebbles, treasure, mold or a materialised bitcoin. These forms might also be viewed as petrosomatoglyphs, carvings of finger tip fossils.
The word ‘Petra’ in Greek means stone, ‘Soma’ as body and Glyphein to carve. The title ‘Keep in Touch’ derives from a sensibility where two fingers almost touch through the panels of glass. My reference for this work sits with the quantity of times I find myself touching glass everyday. Whilst we remain relatively still it seems the speed in which we gather information and connect is accelerating faster. The pebbles attempt to depict a frozen moment, as one might discover a fossil.
